Teachers, secretaries, authors: all united by the inability to write their own language. Strange isn't it? Then again BBC reports that one fifth of adults in England have severe problems with basic literacy and numeracy, poorest results in Europe, save Poland and Ireland. Soooo, judging from that, maybe I shouldn't be too disappointed with the people I meet? And then we have the two nations divided by the same language. English people honestly don't understand Americans, attick/loft, biscuit/roll/cookie, cart, elevator/lift, busking. Personally it's all one language for me and keep translating either way when they roll their eyes. Should I add one more language to my CV? :) |
